World’s Largest Tobacco Expo Celebrates its 40th
InterTabac Dortmund: A big milestone anniversary and new developments for the international flagship trade fair.
Staff Report
Dortmund, Germany, is getting ready for a big milestone anniversary this September when InterTabac will celebrate its 40 years’ history and success as the industry’s largest trade fair. Forty years ago, the inaugural InterTabac show made its mark with 78 exhibitors and 1,750 visitors during August 19-20, 1978. The idea at that time was to establish a platform that allowed tobacconists to obtain comprehensive information on new products and offer better purchasing opportunities, all in one place.
Since then, InterTabac has become the world’s largest trade fair for tobacco products and smoking accessories. Visitors include not only retailers but also numerous international top decision-makers and buyers.
Over the years, InterTabac can boast of many successful developments. One of the more recent ones is the introduction of InterSupply, the trade fair for the production of tobacco goods, in 2015, taking place alongside the InterTabac show. Besides processing and logistics equipment for tobacco, InterSupply covers all process stages and supplier products for the production of tobacco goods and e-cigarettes. Last year, in 2017, following the market trend for e-cigarettes, three adjacent exhibition halls were dedicated entirely to this “hot” product, with shishas and accessories concentrated in Hall 8.
This year’s developments are many. First, in 2018 InterTabac will occupy the largest number of halls in its history. The famous Westfalenhalle event arena (Hall 1) will be integrated into the trade fair for the first time. Together with Halls 2 and 3A, it will give the next generation product segment, covering e-cigarettes and liquids, a large industrial platform. InterTabac will also occupy Halls 3A, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, with InterSupply taking over Hall 3B.
There will now also be a special focus on Spanish-language visitors. A Spanish website (www.intertabac.es) was created for the first time for InterTabac. The new Spanish website, like its English and French counterparts, allows trade visitors to get diverse information such as the range of exhibitors, hall allocation, how to get to the trade fair, and, of course, buy tickets. The additional website supplements the service offer for international trade visitors to InterTabac. Such service offer includes, for example, an online help for applying for a visa to attend the trade fair and information desks at certain international airports in North Rhine Westphalia during the trade fair days.
More than 550 exhibitors will gather in Dortmund this year with more than 12,500 visitors expected to attend the show. In 2017, people from 64 countries came to InterTabac, Sixty-five percent of InterTabac’s exhibitors came from abroad last year, while foreign trade visitors made up 41% of all visitors.
The full list of exhibitors is available by visiting www.intertabac.com Exhibitors and visitors at InterTabac and InterSupply can also join the “Get Together Party” on September 21, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in Hall 3B. Admission tickets to the party can be purchased on the event website.
