MALAWI
Malawi’s tobacco sales season got off to a promising start with prices as high as US$2.10 per kilogram, while low-quality tobacco was going at US$0.80 per kilogram, beating the minimum prices that were projected at Auction Floor in Lilongwe.
Kayisi Sadala, c.e.o. of the Tobacco Control Commission (TCC), said that opening prices were better this year, compared to the previous season. He also said that the opening prices signaled that prices might improve because growers normally offer low-quality leaf at the beginning of sales, and prices should improve when growers start bringing higher quality leaf.
