SAUDI ARABIA
The Saudi National Committee for Tobacco Control is in the process of imposing fines of up to SAR 5,000 (US$1,300) on smokers in several locations as defined by the anti-smoking regulations. The fines will be applied to tobacco intake by cigarette, cigar, pipe, jig, shisha, chewing, storage, or any other relevant method.
Regulations prohibit smoking in public places including squares surrounding mosques, educational, health, sports, cultural, social, and charity facilities and places of work in companies, institutions, bodies, factories, banks, and the like. It also prohibits smoking in public transport (land, air, or sea), places offering food and beverages, or any factories processing and packaging it. In addition, smoking is also prohibited at oil production distribution, transportation, and refining sites including fuel and gas distribution stations, warehouses, elevators, and toilets.
