Hawaii is considering a bill that bans cigarette sales to those under 100.
Hawaii was the first state to raise the age to buy cigarettes to 21. Now, the new bill calls for a phased ban on cigarette sales in the state by 2024, raising the cigarette-buying age to 30 by next year, up to 40, 50, and 60 in each subsequent year, and up to 100 by 2024. The proposed age limits would not apply to e-cigarettes, cigars, or chewing tobacco.
PMI: Not Investing in Cannabis at This Time
According to Philip Morris International (PMI) c.e.o. André Calantzopoulos. making an investment in the cannabis industry may be too risky of a move for the company to make at this time. The Financial Times reported that Calantzopoulos said that there was insufficient scientific data on the long-term effects of cannabis.
“We need better scientific understanding of [cannabis],” he said. “We need to remember that we are operating in an international environment with different [policy] approaches.” Calantzopoulos also said that PMI was currently more focused on getting global regulators to open up to the idea of smoke-free tobacco products than cannabis.
