SINGAPORE
The government has announced that it would introduce new plain packaging measures early next year, when all tobacco products will be packaged in a standardized size, shape, and drab brown color, free of any logos or images. Only brand names will be allowed and the 50% size of graphic health warnings will also be increased to 75% of the package surface.
Australia was the first country in the world to mandate plain packaging in 2012. Eight other countries – France, UK, Hungary, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Uruguay, and Slovenia – have followed.
