The object of the invention is a unit for conveying filter segments (2) for the machines of tobacco industry, comprising a chain conveyor (10) in a horizontal arrangement on which the lugs (21) are disposed, the working ends (28) of which are deflected from the vertical. The unit comprises guides (23, 33) of the filter segments (2) provided with an inclined channel (27) guiding the lug (21).

One aspect of the invention provides an agent for reducing nicotine and harmful components in tobacco leaves for use in the field cultivation of tobacco. In one embodiment, the agent contains (in a weight percentage): salicylic acid 0.005-0.16%, naphthaleneacetic acid 0-0.003%, indoleacetic acid 0-0.015%, and clean water added to 100%. The composition can significantly reduce nicotine and harmful components in tobacco leaves by applying it to tobacco plant in top pruning period of tobacco. The combination of salicylic acid, naphthaleneacetic acid and indoleacetic acid provides synergic effect for reducing nicotine. The nicotine-reducing agent also can result in a yield increase and improve the aroma of tobacco.

Device for processing and measuring properties of a moving rod of material of the tobacco processing industry includes a microwave resonator structured and arranged so that the rod of material is conveyable through the microwave resonator. Includes microwave generator with output frequency f.sub.0, and frequency stabilized oscillator to generate intermediate frequency f.sub.IM that is less than f.sub.0. Single sideband modulator supplies microwave resonator with a sideband signal having a sideband frequency shifted with respect to output frequency f.sub.0 by intermediate frequency f.sub.IM, and at least one analysis arrangement includes single sideband demodulator, low-pass filter, and analog to digital converter arranged in series. Single sideband demodulator receives a measurement signal of the sideband frequency transmitted or reflected from the microwave resonator, and receives output frequency f.sub.0. Low-pass filter passes an output signal of single sideband demodulator with intermediate frequency f.sub.IM, and filters out higher frequency signal portions.
