James Campos is Virginia’s new Tobacco Commission acting executive director.
James E. Campos was appointed the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission’s deputy secretary of commerce and trade and Tobacco Commission acting executive director.
The dual appointment comes from Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin’s office.
Campos’ background is primarily in energy, not rural economic development. He previously held the position of director of the office of economic impact and diversity at the Department of Energy during the Trump administration. Prior to that he worked in government administration in Nevada.
Tobacco Commission chairman Senator Frank Ruff said, “James brings a wealth of experience to the position and I look forward to working with him as we continue to do all that we can to be a catalyst for growth and opportunity in Southern and Southwest Virginia.”
